Starved to Death on Fast Food
For my film class, I must watch certain classics of American Cinema. For instance, two weeks ago I watched Hitchcock's Psycho. Today, I went to the library to watch Singin' in the Rain. I've come to realize that these movies are classics for a reason. They've kept their appeal for a reason. These are really, really good films, very charming.
For instance, Singin' was made in, as I recall, 1952. I wouldn't exactly call it a specialty, but my primary area of interest(aside from directing) is action/stuntwork. So, I pay more attention to these things than maybe normal people would. Now, back in the fifties, action movies were very tame, nothing but punches and pushes. Pretty boring. But, in Singin', the movements were very quick, and the dances were extremely well-choreographed.
One of the songs was from Donald O'Connor(who was a comic genius in this movie), called 'Make 'em Laugh'. This guy showed off some incredible physical comedy and skill. Backflips, great falls, and smashing through walls, all in one long take. Seriously, impressive. But, that's just me. Still, I would recommend watching this movie. At least once.
Onward, have you ever gone into a class, confused as fook on the material, and come out understanding it? Yeah, that happened today in my Logic recitation. It was great. Going into class, I had no idea how to do the Truth Tables, and was ready to put a gun to my eyeball and blow my brains out the back of my skull. But, a bit of help from the TA, actually sitting down and trying to understand, and it all made sense. Ah, what a good feeling.
