Well, believe it or not, I'm glad it's raining. It's been so bloody blazing hot in this apartment, that even just a little cooling off is like nirvana. Ahhh.

Anyway, I started working at Blockbuster again. It's not a bad job, in fact, I really kind of like it. I'm surround by movies all the time, and that's no problem to me. But I've been finding out that, on top of no one ever taking me bloody seriously, is that no one, not one person(save Cheese, and even we differ on many things) likes the movies that I like. It's kind of like Nikki and I, but on a larger scale. The thing that trips my landmine, is(I'm surely guilty of this as well) how much they all think that I have no clue on how movies are made or how they succeed or fail in their various endevours. Let me tell you this, just because you are a fan of Wes Anderson or the Coen Brothers, does not make you bloody smarter than me.

Loving the Royal Tenenbaums and The Big Lebowski does not make you sophisticated, funny, or intelligent. Being a fan of Hong Kong cinema does not make me Chinese, ya dig? And I'm getting a bit tired of being told that, because I liked Blade and hated Interview with the Vampire, because I love Star Wars and didn't like Kill Bill, that I'm just wowed by special effects. No, I just like what I like, good story, good action, visually stunning, whatever it is that I like I'm getting tired of being told that I'm simple minded. Let me tell you, everyone in Pittsburgh loves the Coen Brothers. And those bastards are some tenacious and ultradefensive fans. Jerks.

Yes, I know that QT took elements from all kinds of movies and put them together, yes I know that it's supposed to be overthetop, yes I know that it's an homage, but that doesn't make it good. He still sucks as a director. He's a great writer, yes, but can't use a camera. And come on, I've seen way better action that uglyass Uma Thurman's. Yes, I get Kill Bill. No, I don't like it.

Quit telling me that I don't get your comedy, that it's too sophisticated, that I'm not smart enough. I understand it. I just do not find it that bloody funny. *sigh*

Just respond to my criticisms and quit telling me that I just don't get it. One of these days, I'm gonna tear some legs off. Hey, I like more movies than I dislike, too. So give me a break. I realize that no one in the entire history of the universe likes the movies that I like. Just let me enjoy it.

p.s. I'm working on this myself. I really need to just calm down and let people like what they like. In fact, I'd say that's one of my greatest failings. I hate fallibility.

Kill Bill was fine, not GREAT *flailing arms around* triumphant cinema like Bladerunner or Ghostbusters, but it was fine. In the same respect the latest Star Wars movies were fine, where as the older ones were masterpieces and the difference? How full of themselves the director was. Lucas went from a relative unknown struggling to make a good story, to a bloated ego with billions of dollars. He lost sight of some of the more humanising elements of the original trilogy. That interpersonal tie that makes things spark. He still has it in him,but success has numbed him a little. He needs to play with some poor kids to get it back I think.

Please, for all that is holy, tell me that you loved "What about Bob?"!!! That is a comedy masterpiece.

I'm hurt that you could think that I didn't like 'What Aboot Bob'

Personally, I think the more you have to be "sophisticated" or "intelligent" to like something, the more I'm innately prone to calling it a load of hooey.

I'm sure Herman Melville wrote some deeply metaphysical things in his day, and that those things meant a lot to him. But they don't mean much to me, and if I want to learn something by reading, I'll stick to either David Gemmel or C.S. Lewis, thanks kindly.

People actually tell you you're not smart enough to get these films? That's pretty hard to believe, as you're quite brilliant and obviously you know it, so that's great. I don't know who would question your taste in movies. As you say, you're surrounded by movies at blockbuster now, and you've surrounded yourself with movies your whole life. By now you know what you like and what you don't, and I respect that. I'm glad with that you came through with some actual criticisms here, instead of the typical "it sucks" variety. (those aren't very effective in getting your point across: http://www.tabulas.com/~JBird/205684.html). The Big Lebowski has not raised my I.Q., made me more popular, or more funny. I just enjoyed it. And I enjoyed the Blade movies. I understand your critique of Coen fans, but you're painting with a pretty broad brush there. And violently verablly assaulting people's tastes will entice the same sort of response. If you confront people in that way you should expect, and deal with (which you seem to have trouble with) the same type of arguements made in return.

Coen fan: "I like the Coen bros."

Narzack: "Coen bros suck monkey ballz. I hope they die some sort of violent death involving dismemberment and untold pain and agony."

Coen fan: "you're not funny, sophisticated, or intelligent"
