A couple things I'm moderately ashamed to admit:
-
I really liked Linkin Park's first album
-
I laughed at Dane Cook's comedy when I first heard it.
-
I've never seen Fargo (Not really in a rush to, either)
-
I believe that while their storytelling and writing is shitty, the Wachowski brothers are superb at shooting action
A couple things I'm really ashamed to admit:
- Two parts in Revenge of the Sith choke me up
-
- Order 66
- The final duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan
-Some clarification: Ignore for a moment all of Lucas' heavy handed, clumsy, and, frankly amateurish writing. Ignore for a moment the ridiculous set piece. These are two men who were brothers, who endured misery and pain together. And now there is a rift between them, a schism that can never be healed. So they fight. One fights with rage and anger and hate and pain, the other with sadness and grief. Obi-Wan doesn't want to do this, but Anakin forces his hand. And, to be honest, I think it's Hayden's best performance. Maybe I'm just looking for something to like in the movie, but I think he really sells the relentless anger and fury. Anakin feels he's been betrayed by Obi-Wan, so he lashes out and attacks. He's in a fucked up place, mentally.
And Obi-Wan knows that Anakin won't stop, and it breaks his heart that he has to fight him. You can see that anguish coming through Ewan's eyes, too. They stand opposite and can never be reconciled.
To me, that's drama enough. Just all that is passing between these two, their history and relationship. The stupid collapsing tower and floating on two tiny robots and shit, that just detracts from the emotion. Too much spectacle. I like to imagine that fight redone, but with a minimalist setting. There's enough pain and fury and grief implacable rage already within the scene. Of course, Lucas doesn't do subtlety, anymore. He just piles on more shit. I guess I want something more like Darth Maul's fight. Anyway, I kinda got sidetracked. Point is, that final duel kinda makes me choke up.
- LotR makes me tear up. Not just dramatic death scenes, either. Like, just the hobbit being hobbits (They're so brave!). Maybe I'm going through puberty.
- I have wet myself from laughing at least seven times in my life.
- Sometimes I want to play WoW.
- I have to look up how to spell 'embarrassed' every time I want to use it. So, I frequently use 'ashamed' instead.
Two weeks ago, I hosted a LAN party. It went really well. I'm quite proud of it. We played UT2k4, Starcraft, and Quake 3. It was a lot of fun. Already planning another one. We might broadcast it on Justin.tv. Maybe, we'll see what happens. Haley and I have started doing Adventure Games with commentary Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 10:00 PM EST. Check it out.
